Dasia “DasiaVu” Edmond is a thirteen years-old Author with a vision to capture her life’s events in books to allow her peers to journey with her through those tough teenage years. Dasia stands on Gender Equality and believes that everyone should receive equal opportunities regardless of gender. Dasia wants to inspire other young girls and let them know that “they can do whatever they want if they put their minds to it and that they shouldn’t let the doubt of others cause them to second guess themselves and prevent them from pursing their dreams.”
Dasia has penned two books, Uniquely Made: “Girls Don’t Play Football,” and Hair Chronicles: “The Struggles of Natural Hair.” She has been making headlines since the release of Uniquely Made in December 2016. In “Uniquely Made” Dasia tells the story of how after constantly being told that
“Girls Don’t Play Football” she not only made the Pop Warner Team but played for 3 years! She takes the readers on a journey of how she convinced her parents to allow her to play and earned the respect of her teammates and Coaches. In Dasia’s second book, Hair Chronicles: “The Struggles of Natural Hair.” Dasia details the struggles she has with her natural hair. She talks about the adventures of going to the Salon, the stylist who put up with her, the different hair styles she gets and the pain she endures while getting her hair “did.”
In its 1st year in publication, Uniquely Made sold over 1000 copies and received 100, five-star reviews on Amazon. Dasia has been featured on ABC7NY’s, Here and Now segment with Sandra Bookman, Spot Light NJ, News 12 with Della Crews, FIOS 1 with Emily Girsh and on TV34 Union. She’s been interviewed on internet radio stations “For Book Lovers Only” and “Rebel Radio.” Dasia was presented with the 2017 Essex County Althea Gibson Leadership Award by the Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, who named her “Girl-On-The-Go.”
Dasia also received the Mayor’s award of Union Township, was inducted as the youngest member of the Chamber of Commerce in Union, received a Certificate of Recognition from the Union Township Board of Education and was presented with a Resolution by Union County Freeholders Vernell Wright and Mohamed S. Jalloh congratulating her for penning two books. She was honored as one of five local “She-roes” at the 2018 Women’s Month Celebration in union, was named Walmart Player of the Game by the New Jersey Devils and Dasia was also presented with a “30 Under 30” Honorary Cloud Kid of New Jersey award.
Dasia is very active in her community, participating in various community service events and speaking to her peers at local schools. She gave the first $50.00 of the proceeds of her book sales to her Church’s scholarship fund and donated a basketball and ping pong set to the Boys and Girls Club of Union where she is an active member. In addition to being an Author, DasiaVu has branded herself and created tee shirt, hat, tote bags and mug lines.
